Nassau County Launches Drone First Responder Program

Nassau County has launched a new Drone as First Responder program designed to help police respond to emergencies more quickly and efficiently. The initiative includes 70 Skydio drones stationed in eight locations across the county. When a high-priority 911 call is received, a drone can be deployed within seconds to provide live video to responding officers and the county's intelligence center, giving first responders valuable information before they arrive on scene. Officials say the drones can also assist with large public events, search-and-rescue missions, and locating missing persons using thermal imaging technology. Operated by 40 FAA-certified drone pilots, the drones can travel up to 45 mph and are funded entirely through law enforcement asset forfeiture funds, with no additional cost to taxpayers. County officials emphasized that the drones are intended for emergency response and public safety—not routine surveillance of neighborhoods or private property. To read the full article click here

Help Prevent the "Summer Slide" in 2026

Summer vacation is a time for fun, but it's also important to keep young minds active. Educators refer to the "summer slide" as the learning loss that can happen when children go months without practicing reading, writing, and math skills. Research shows students can lose a significant portion of their academic progress over the summer, especially in math, but a few simple habits can help keep them on track.

Experts recommend encouraging children to read daily, practice math through everyday activities like cooking or shopping, visit libraries and museums, play educational games, and participate in summer enrichment programs when possible. Even setting aside just 20–30 minutes a few days each week for learning can make a big difference. The goal isn't to recreate the classroom, it's to keep children curious, confident, and ready for a successful start to the new school year. To continue reading this article click here

A Letter to Our Nassau Plus Family

Dear Friends,

Thank you for spending another week with Nassau Plus. We truly appreciate you welcoming us into your homes and allowing us to share the people, places, events, and stories that make Nassau County such a wonderful place to live. Whether you're discovering a new local restaurant, planning your next family outing, or simply catching up on what's happening around town, we're grateful to be part of your week.

With temperatures soaring, we hope you'll take a little extra time to care for yourself and those around you. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and don't forget to enjoy one of summer's simple pleasures—a tall glass of iced tea, fresh lemonade, or whatever your favorite summer drink may be. Summer is a season for celebrations, backyard barbecues, beach days, laughter with friends, and creating memories with family. We encourage you to enjoy every moment while staying safe and checking in on loved ones, neighbors, and anyone who may need a helping hand during this extreme heat.

Life continues to bring each of us both triumphs and struggles, but the greatest blessing is simply waking up each morning with another opportunity to move forward. Our journeys are all different, yet every step, no matter how small, moves us toward becoming stronger, wiser, and more resilient. Embrace your path, believe in your potential, and don't let the barriers of the physical world or the doubts in your own mind define what is possible. More often than not, the only ceiling that exists is the one we place above ourselves.

Challenge yourself to learn something new every day, no matter how small it may seem. A new skill, a new perspective, a new act of kindness, or a new conversation can change the course of your future in ways you never expected. And as you continue your journey, remember to care for your body. It is the vehicle you've been given to carry you through this remarkable life. Nourish it, strengthen it, allow it to rest, and be grateful for all that it does for you each day.

From all of us at Nassau Plus, we wish you a week filled with good health, clear minds, grateful hearts, and meaningful moments with the people you love most. Stay cool, stay safe, stay hopeful, and never stop believing that your best days are still ahead.

With gratitude,

The Nassau Plus Team
Local. Connected. Hopeful.
